At its meeting held March 20, 2007, the Board took the following action:
Supervisor Molina made the following statement:
“On Monday, January 15, 2007, at approximately 6:30 p.m, Mr. Benjamin Abella, a City of Los Angeles resident, was driving home from work going westbound on the 60 Freeway in East Los Angeles. As he passed the 710 Freeway interchange and just prior to the Indiana Street exit, a suspect or suspects drove along side Mr. Abella and shot several rounds into Mr. Abella’s vehicle. Unfortunately, one bullet hit Mr. Abella, which resulted in his death. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance to bring the perpetrator/s of this heinous crime to justice, and anyone with information about this case is being urged to contact Detective Angus Ferguson at (323) 890 5500.”
Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Molina, seconded by Supervisor Burke, unanimously carried (Supervisor Antonovich being absent), the Board established a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fatal shooting of Benjamin Abella as he was driving home from work on the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway near the Long Beach (710) Freeway interchange just prior to the Indiana St. exit, on Monday, January 15, 2007 at approximately 6:30 p.m.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORSNotice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles has established a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fatal shooting of Benjamin Abella as he was driving home from work on the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway near the Long Beach (710) Freeway interchange just prior to the Indiana St. exit, on Monday, January 15, 2007 at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Detective Angus Ferguson at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 and refer to Report No. 007-00658-0277-011.
The terms of the reward provide that:
The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than June 18, 2007. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than August 17, 2007. The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $10,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes. The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than August 17, 2007 with the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Benjamin Abella Reward Fund.
