At its meeting held January 29, 2008, the Board took the following action:

     Supervisor Burke made the following statement:

      "On February 6, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved a reward offer of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the heinous murder of Demetris Perry. The reward offer was extended on July 31, 2007, but will expire on February 1, 2008.

      "On Friday, January 26, 2007, at approximately 6:00 p.m., at Charles Drew Middle School, located at 8511 Compton Avenue in the Florence Firestone area of Los Angeles Demetris Perry, age 23, was fatally shot.

      "The shooting started when three men entered the school's gym, a 'gang expletive' was shouted and Mr. Perry -- who was at the campus with a number of other people playing basketball -- was shot, authorities said. Demetris Perry leaves behind his mother and extended family.

      "Sheriff's Department investigators stated that the offer of a reward may encourage individuals to come forth with information which may aid in the homicide investigation."

      Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Burke, seconded by Supervisor Antonovich, unanimously carried (Supervisor Molina being absent), the Board extended the $10,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous murder of Demetris Perry, who was fatally shot at Charles Drew Middle School, located at 8511 Compton Ave., in the Florence/ Firestone area of Los Angeles on Friday, January 26, 2007, at approximately 6:00 p.m.


NOTICE OF $10,000.00 REWARD
OFFERED BY THE
LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles has extended the $10,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous murder of Demetris Perry, who was fatally shot at Charles Drew Middle School, located at 8511 Compton Ave., in the Florence/Firestone area of Los Angeles on Friday, January 26, 2007, at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Detectives Karen Shonka or Mike Caouette at the Los Angeles County Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5621 or (323) 890-5627 and refer to Report No. 2007-01956-2174-011.

The terms of the reward provide that:

  • The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than July 30, 2008. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than September 28, 2008.
  • The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $10,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
  • The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than September 28, 2008 with the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Demetris Perry Reward Fund.
