At its meeting held June 4, 2008, the Board took the following action:

     Supervisor Burke made the following statement:

      "On March 11, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved a reward offer of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Jamiel Andre Shaw. The reward will expire on June 9, 2008.

      "On Sunday, March 2, 2008 at approximately 8:30 p.m., 17 year old Los Angeles High School football star, Jamiel Andre Shaw, was shot and killed in the 2100 block of 5th Avenue, near the Santa Monica Freeway.

      "Jamiel had been named the football team's 'Most Valuable Player' and football coach, Hardy Williams, described Jamiel as a 'Houdini on the football field.' As a junior, the standout player rushed for more than 1,000 yards last year, scored 11 touchdowns, returned punts and kickoffs and played defensive back."

      Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Burke, seconded by Supervisor Yaroslavsky, unanimously carried (Supervisor Molina being absent), the Board extended the $10,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of 17-year-old Jamiel Andre Shaw, who was shot and killed in the 2100 block of 5th Avenue, near the Santa Monica Freeway on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at approximately 8:30 p.m.


NOTICE OF $10,000.00 REWARD
OFFERED BY THE
LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles has extended the $10,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of 17-year-old Jamiel Andre Shaw, who was shot and killed in the 2100 block of 5th Avenue, near the Santa Monica Freeway on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Detective Frank Carrillo at the Los Angeles Police Department, Wilshire Area Homicide Detectives Unit at (213) 473-0446 and refer to Report No. 08-0708933.

The terms of the reward provide that:

  • The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than December 6, 2008. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than February 4, 2009.
  • The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $10,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
  • The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than February 4, 2009 with the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Jamiel Andre Shaw Reward Fund.
