At its meeting held May 2, 2006, the Board took the following action:

      Supervisor Knabe made the following statement:

      “On March 1, 2006, Mr. Jaime Meza, a crossing guard for the City of Norwalk, was tragically hit by a hit and run driver. Mr. Meza, while holding up a stop sign to allow a bicyclist to pass, was struck by a 1986 Toyota pickup truck. Thankfully, Mr. Meza was not killed and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. The City of Norwalk is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who assists deputies in arresting Mr. Jose Francisco Velez Serrano, the accused hit and run driver. Mr. Serrano has left the country and has returned to Mexico.”

      Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Knabe, seconded by Supervisor Antonovich, unanimously carried (Supervisor Burke being absent), the Board established a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jose Francisco Velez Serrano, the person responsible for the hit and run crime on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, which resulted in injuries to Jaime Meza, a crossing guard for the City of Norwalk.


NOTICE OF $5,000.00 REWARD
OFFERED BY THE
LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jose Francisco Velez Serrano, the person responsible for the hit and run crime on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, which resulted in injuries to Jaime Meza, a crossing for the City of Norwalk.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Deputy Jeffrey Tibbetts, Norwalk Sheriff’s Station and refer to Report No. 406-03794-0459-251.

The terms of the reward provide that:

  • The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than July 31, 2006. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than September 29, 2006.
  • The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $5,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
  • The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than September 29, 2006 with the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Jaime Meza Reward Fund.
