At its meeting held May 6, 2008, the Board took the following action:

      The following statement was entered into the record for Supervisor Yaroslavsky:

     "On Sunday, March 9, 2008, between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., 70-year-old Katan Khaimov was brutally stabbed to death in the area of Romaine Street and Martel Avenue, Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department has indicated that the posting of a reward may assist in the apprehension of the suspect in this heinous crime."

      Therefore, at the suggestion of Supervisor Yaroslavsky and on motion of Supervisor Antonovich, seconded by Supervisor Knabe, unanimously carried (Supervisor Yaroslavsky being absent), the Board established a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of 70-year-old Katan Khaimov, who was brutally stabbed to death in the area of Romaine St., and Martel Ave., Los Angeles, on March 9, 2008, between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00 p.m.

NOTICE OF $10,000.00 REWARD
OFFERED BY THE
LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles has established a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of 70-year-old Katan Khaimov, who was brutally stabbed to death in the area of Romaine St., and Martel Ave., Los Angeles, on March 9, 2008, between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00 p.m.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Detective McNeil or Detective Brandstetter at the Los Angeles Police Department, Homicide Special Section at (213) 972-2914 or (213) 972-2912 and refer to Report No. 08-0609858.

The terms of the reward provide that:

  • The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than August 4, 2008. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than October 3, 2008.
  • The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $10,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
  • The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than October 3, 2008 with the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Katan Khaimov Reward Fund.
