Murder of LA County Sheriff's Deputy Maria Cecilia Rosa Description and Date of Crime: Murder of LA County Sheriff's Deputy Maria Cecilia Rosa - 03/28/2006 Location: Eucalyptus Avenue, Long Beach Reward Amount and Date Offered: $25,000 - 08/15/2006 Deadline to Provide Information to Law Enforcement Agency: 11/13/2006 Deadline to Submit Claim to Executive Office: 01/12/2007
At its meeting held August 15, 2006, the Board took the following action:
The following statement was entered into the record for Supervisor Knabe:“On the morning of March 28, 2006, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Maria Cecilia Rosa exited her friend’s home on Eucalyptus Avenue in the City of Long Beach and was on her way to work. While Deputy Rosa was loading her bags into the trunk of her vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, it is believed that she was approached by two subjects.
“The investigation thus far has led us to believe that these two subjects attempted to rob Deputy Rosa at gunpoint. Deputy Rosa produced a handgun from her handbag in order to defend herself. However, she was shot two times before having a chance to return fire. Deputy Rosa was pronounced dead a short while later.
“Investigators believe it would be an appropriate time to reestablish the $25,000 dollar reward in this case which may prompt otherwise reluctant witnesses to come forward and provide information to identify those responsible for this crime.”
Therefore, on recommendation of Supervisor Knabe and on motion of Supervisor Molina, seconded by Supervisor Antonovich, unanimously carried (Supervisors Yaroslavsky and Knabe being absent), the Board reestablished the $25,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Maria Cecilia Rosa, who was shot twice while placing her bags into her vehicle, as she left her friend’s home on Eucalyptus Ave., in the City of Long Beach at 6:12 a.m. on March 28, 2006.
