Fatal Shooting of Marvin Lewis

At its meeting held May 6, 2008, the Board took the following action:

Supervisor Burke made the following statement:

"On January 9, 2007 the Board of Supervisors approved a reward offer of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Marvin Lewis. The reward offer was last extended on October 2, 2007.

"On Sunday, June 25, 2005, Marvin Lewis, age 41, was gunned down in front of his home in the 1000 block of West Palmer Street in Compton, California. Mr. Lewis was stepping out of his house when a car drove up and shots were fired. The right front passenger fired several rounds out of a white SUV killing the victim. The vehicle was last seen driving west bound on Palmer Street out of sight."

Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Burke, seconded by Supervisor Knabe, unanimously carried (Supervisor Yaroslavsky being absent), the Board reestablished the $5,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Marvin Lewis, who was gunned down in front of his home in the 1000 block of West Palmer St. in the City of Compton, on Sunday, June 25, 2005 at 11:35 p.m.

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles has reestablished the $5,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Marvin Lewis, who was gunned down in front of his home in the 1000 block of West Palmer St. in the City of Compton, on Sunday, June 25, 2005 at 11:35 p.m.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Detective Jeff Leslie or Eddie Brown at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 and refer to Report No. 005-10034-2811-011.

The terms of the reward provide that:

The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than August 4, 2008. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than October 3, 2008.
The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $5,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than October 2, 2008, with the Executive Office of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Marvin Lewis Reward Fund.
