At its meeting held February 20, 2007, the Board took the following action:
Supervisor Knabe made the following statement:
“On December 10, 2006, Paul David Gomez, age 21, was shot and killed at the intersection of Leffingwell Road and Meyer Road in (Unincorporated Whittier).
"Mr. Gomez, a resident of Norwalk, was a passenger in the front seat of a vehicle being driven by a friend. Investigators have not received information indicating that the victim provoked the shooting, and although not confirmed, believe the murder was committed by gang members.
“A lone witness contacted deputy personnel shortly after the shooting and relayed to the investigators that other vehicles were present at the intersection at the time of the shooting, and therefore, may have witnessed the event. No additional witnesses have come forward. Investigators believe it would be beneficial to offer a reward in this case which may prompt reluctant witnesses to come forward and provide information to identify the individual(s) responsible for this crime.”
Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Knabe, seconded by Supervisor Burke, unanimously carried (Supervisor Molina being absent), the Board approved the establishment of a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous murder of Paul David Gomez, who was fatally shot at the intersection of Leffingwell Rd. and Meyer Rd., in the unincorporated area of Whittier on December 10, 2006, while riding as a passenger in the front seat of a vehicle driven by a friend.
