At its meeting held March 18, 2008, the Board took the following action:
The following statement was entered into the record for Supervisor Burke:
"On March 27, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved a reward offer of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the heinous and senseless murder of 18-month old Qristyonn Augustine and the wounding of Mr. Hollis Roberts. The reward was extended on September 18, 2008, but will expire on March 21, 2008.
"On Monday, March 26, 2007, shortly after midnight, Rebekah Harris was dropping off her friend Hollis Roberts at the 900 block of East 94th Street at Wadsworth Avenue in southeast Los Angeles. Ms. Harris' two children, her 18-month old daughter, Qristyonn Augustine, and her 4 year old son, were also in the car. Suddenly, a car pulled up adjacent to their vehicle and shot over 10 bullets at their car, injuring Mr. Roberts and mortally wounding Qristyonn, who was shot in the face as she was still strapped in her car seat. Qristyonn, who was taken to Miller's Children Hospital in Long Beach, was taken off life support systems and was pronounced dead just before 7:00 p.m. Mr. Roberts was taken to a local hospital and was released.
"The suspect's vehicle is described as a tan or brown Oldsmobile Cutlass 88, possibly a 1994 – 1996 year model, with tinted windows and chrome rims. Anyone possessing information is encouraged to provide the information to the Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Division Detectives Unit.
"As of today, the perpetrators of this heinous and vicious crime remain at large. Anyone who has no regard for the lives of innocent children is a danger and menace to society. While this murder and attempted murder occurred in an area known for gang activity, according to police, the victims did not have any known gang ties and were most likely the random target of gang violence. Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department state that the offer of a reward may encourage individuals to come forth with information which may aid in this investigation. The City Council of the City of Los Angeles will also be offering a reward for information."
Therefore, at the suggestion of Supervisor Burke and on motion of Supervisor Molina, seconded by Supervisor Yaroslavsky, unanimously carried (Supervisor Burke being absent), the Board extended the $25,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous and senseless murder of 18-month old Qristyonn Augustine and the attempted murder of Mr. Hollis Roberts, who were shot at in the 900 block of East 94th Street at Wadsworth Avenue in southeast Los Angeles shortly after midnight on Monday, March 26, 2007.
