Murder of Reyes Armando Garcia

At its meeting held June 19, 2007, the Board took the following action:

Supervisor Knabe made the following statement:

"On February 9, 2007, Reyes Armando Garcia was shot and killed at 14314 Telegraph Road, in the unincorporated area of Whittier. After the shooting, the suspects sped away in a light colored pickup truck.

"Investigators believe there may have been witnesses staying at the Day's Inn Hotel which is located within the same parking lot, who may have seen the shooting or the vehicle the suspects were driving. Investigators believe it would be beneficial to request an extension of the reward in the amount of $25,000, which may prompt witnesses to come forward and provide information to identify the individual(s) responsible for this crime."

Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Knabe, seconded by Supervisor Yaroslavsky, unanimously carried, the Board extended the $25,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous murder of Reyes Armando Garcia, who was fatally shot while working as a security guard for the Oceans Sports Bar, located at 14314 Telegraph Rd., in the unincorporated area of Whittier on February 9, 2007.

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles has extended the $25,000 reward offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous murder of Reyes Armando Garcia, who was fatally shot while working as a security guard for the Oceans Sports Bar, located at 14314 Telegraph Rd., in the unincorporated area of Whittier on February 9, 2007.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Sergeants Sandra Nava or Donald Walls at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 and refer to Report No. 007-02670-0495-011.

The terms of the reward provide that:

The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than September 23, 2007. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than November 22, 2007.
The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $25,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than November 22, 2007 with the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Reyes Armando Garcia Reward Fund.
