At its meeting held February 10, 2009, the Board took the following action:

      The following statement was entered into the record for Supervisor Antonovich:

      "On January 26, 2008, at approximately 9:00 p.m., 16-year-old, Samantha Salas was fatally shot and killed while walking with a friend on the 2500 block of Peck Road, in the unincorporated area of Monrovia. Samantha Salas was approached by two male suspects on foot. The suspects are described as two male blacks in their 20’s, wearing dark colored bandanas or hooded sweatshirts, and are members of the Du Rock Crips gang. The suspects fled the scene on foot and remain at large.
      "On June 4, 2008, this Board approved a $10,000 reward. On August 12, 2008 that reward was extended and subsequently increased from $10,000 to $20,000 on August 19, 2008. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is requesting an extension of the reward to aid in their investigation which is due to expire on March 1, 2009."

      Therefore, on motion of Supervisor Antonovich, seconded by Supervisor Yaroslavsky, unanimously carried, the Board extended the $20,000 reward offered for any information leading to the apprehension and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous murder of 16-year-old Samantha Salas, who was shot and killed while walking with a friend on the 2500 block of Peck Road near Longden Avenue, in the unincorporated area of Monrovia, on January 26, 2008 at approximately 9:00 p.m.


NOTICE OF $20,000.00 REWARD
OFFERED BY THE
LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles has extended the $20,000 reward offered for any information leading to the apprehension and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous murder of 16-year-old Samantha Salas, who was shot and killed while walking with a friend on the 2500 block of Peck Road near Longden Avenue, in the unincorporated area of Monrovia, on January 26, 2008 at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Detectives Martinez or Godfrey at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890 5500 and refer to Report No. 008-01285-0582-011.

The terms of the reward provide that:

  • The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than August 28, 2009. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than October 27, 2009.
  • The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $20,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
  • The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than October 27, 2009, with the Executive Office of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Samantha Salas Reward Fund.
