Attack of Santa Clarita Woman

At its meeting held July 17, 2007, the Board took the following action:

The following statement was entered into the record for Supervisor Antonovich:

"On Tuesday morning, June 26, 2007, a Santa Clarita woman was attacked in her apartment. The suspect entered her home through an open window but fled shortly afterward when the victim began screaming as he was reaching for his waistband. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, approximately 30-years-old, 5' 7" tall weighing 170 pounds and had a Hispanic accent. Also, he was dressed in a dark colored flannel shirt over a hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and gloves.

"This incident is similar to two prior sexual assaults which occurred in the Canyon Country area where it appears the community is at great risk. All three incidents may be linked but the two prior cases have been confirmed to be linked by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crime Lab.

"The Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station is seeking information regarding this suspect to assist in their investigation."

Therefore, at the suggestion of Supervisor Antonovich and on motion of Supervisor Knabe, seconded by Supervisor Burke, unanimously carried (Supervisors Molina and Antonovich being absent), the Board established a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person responsible for attacking a Santa Clarita woman in her apartment on the morning of Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person responsible for attacking a Santa Clarita woman in her apartment on the morning of Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

Any person having any information related to this crime is requested to call Detective John Gill at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station in Santa Clarita at (661) 255-1121 and refer to Report No. 407-11911-0612-062.

The terms of the reward provide that:

The information given that leads to the determination of the identity, the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons must be given no later than October 15, 2007. All reward claims must be in writing and shall be received no later than December 14, 2007.
The total County payment of any and all rewards shall in no event exceed $10,000 and no claim shall be paid prior to conviction unless the Board of Supervisors makes a finding of impossibility of conviction due to the death or incapacity of the person or persons responsible for the crime or crimes.
The County reward may be apportioned between various persons and/or paid for the conviction of various persons as the circumstances fairly dictate.

Any claims for the reward funds should be filed no later than December 14, 2007 with the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, 500 West Temple Street, Room 383 Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Los Angeles, California 90012, Attention: Santa Clarita Attack Reward Fund.
